The LREC Conference is ELRA’s biennial flagship event, organized since 1998 with the support of institutions and organizations involved in HLT. Bringing together an increasing large number of participants working and interested in HLT, it has become a major event in the field of language engineering, and constitutes a milestone in the life of Human Language Technologies (HLT).
Hybrid mode
The 13th edition of LREC just took place a couple of weeks ago at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille (France) on June 20-25, 2022. The conference was held mainly in-person (for oral sessions, workshops, and tutorials). With the support of Conference Catalysts, our registration and hybrid service provider, a virtual component was set up to accommodate those who could not come to France. All authors of papers accepted to the Main conference, whether Oral or Posters, were requested to upload a video presentation of their paper on our partner’s platform.
From July 30, 2022, all videos, including the Opening and Closing Sessions, the Keynote and Invited Speakers and the Antonio Zampolli Prize talk (including pre-concert), will be accessible and downloadable from the LREC 2022 website.
Participation
In total, nearly 1800 participants registered to LREC 2022. Most participants, accounting for 70%, attended the Main Conference, the workshops, and the tutorials in Marseille. The majority of them came from European countries, academic institutions principally, while 1/3 came from America (USA, Canada) and Asia (Japan, India, Korea).
Proceedings
The Proceedings of LREC 2022, encompassing the Main conference papers and all the Workshops papers, are published at http://www.lrec-conf.org/proceedings/lrec2022/index.html. They will soon be available also in the ACL Anthology.
Antonio Zampolli Prize
The Antonio Zampolli Prize has been created by ELRA in 2014 to honour the memory of their first president, Prof. Antonio Zampolli. The prize rewards the “Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Language Resources and Language Technology Evaluation within Human Language Technologies”. This year, the Antonio Zampolli Prize was awarded to Steven Bird, from Charles Darwin University, in Australia.

Keynote and Invited Speakers
Dr Julia Parish-Morris and Dr Dupoux gave the keynote speeches on Language Resources for charting Linguistic Diversity in Neuroexpansive Populations and Textless NLP: towards language processing from raw audio, respectively. The invited speakers Dr Philippe Boula de Mareüil and Professor José Delofeu gave their talk on French language respectively addressing The languages of France illustrated by a Speaking Atlas and Why we do not speak in Marseilles as they write in Paris?
