First virtual LRB Meeting in and across Europe!

On 29 April 2020, ELRC‘s Language Resource Board held its 9th LRB Meeting which – for the very first time in the history of ELRC – was a virtual gathering of all National Anchor Points across Europe. The more than 70 attendees of the meeting were welcomed by June Lowery-Kingston, Head of Unit G.3 Accessibility, Multilingualism and Safer Internet, and Philippe Gelin, Head of Sector Multilingualism at DG CONNECT.

Following latest news about the current CEF Telecom call on Automated Translation and latest ELRC activities (including ELRC’s support to the COVID-19 initiative), the meeting focussed on the new ELRC Country Workshops that are expected to be rolled out from September 2020 onwards. Participants were given an overview of the upcoming workshops contents. Practical hints and tips on all matters related to the actual preparation and conduct of these events were also provided.

The highlight of the day was the bilateral meetings with the European Commission: Each National Anchor Point had the opportunity to meet the EC representative(s) of the Unit G.3 online directly  to cover any questions around eTranslation, CEF Generic Services projects or the ELRC contract.

The next meeting of the Language Resource Board is planned for the second half of 2020, and we are curious, whether it will be face-to-face or virtual. Our work until then though will continue virtually!
